"I really feel it’s important to kick off the show addressing a situation that has arisen off the back of something that I said in a segment that was really stupid," Jackie said as her breakfast radio show began this morning.

"We were talking about Kieran Foran from the Parramatta Eels…and I gave voice to a really ugly rumour, and I just wanted to apologise for that."

The Eels player was rushed to hospital last week after he reportedly overdosed on prescription medication, after splitting with his long-term partner, and mother of his two children, Rebecca Pope, weeks earlier.

He has since been transferred to a rehabilitation clinic.

It was reported last night that the Eels captain was considering legal action against the radio host after she asked former NRL star Braith Anasta about the paternity of Foran's son in a live segment late last week.

Foran's legal team sent the radio network a letter demanding a "clear apology and retraction" of the "defamatory, completely false, untrue" claims.

A clearly emotional Jackie acknowledged this morning her comments were "really insensitive, especially considering what Kieran is going through at this time of his life."

"I can imagine how hurtful that would have been and I feel really terrible and I’m truly sorry," she continued, sounding as though she was on the verge of tears.

"I have tried very hard in my career not to be hurtful and that’s why I’m very sorry for any harm that I’ve caused, and I hope that they will accept my apology," her voice cracked.

Foran split with Pope just three weeks after the birth of their second child, Jordan, with Pope revealing that life as a single mum with a newborn has been "completely and utterly challenging".

"I feel like I haven't ever caught a break. But today I thank my lucky stars for these two beautiful kids in my life," she wrote on social media.
